Highlights from Curtis:
Guys, I have NO PULLS this week! I know, it’s weird but that happens sometimes. But there’s still something wonderful this week that I’m going to highlight below
- East of West Year Two HC – (W) Jonathan Hickman (A) Nick Dragotta – Collecting issues 16-29 of the amazing East of West, this is a must-have for people who like the feeling of those nice oversized prestige hardcovers. It’s also a must-have for people who enjoy an extremely nihilistic view of the apocalypse.
Highlights from Sarah:
- Fire the Zora Neale Hurston Story HC – (W/A) Peter Bagge – Named for the literary magazine started by Hurston and her friends in the Harlem Renaissance, Fire is the story of the woman who defied the cultural expectations placed on Black women in the early 20th century. To preserve and share the stories that history would erase, Hurston collected folklore and published novels full of the stories of Black America. Bagge weaves a vibrant, captivating tale full of energy and homage to the powerhouse that inspired his work.
- Magdalena #1 – (W) Tini Howard (A) Christian Dibari – The Magdalena is a title, passed down to women through the bloodline of Mary Magdalene and Jesus Christ. Its barer is charged with protecting the earth from the demonic forces of evil, only the current Magdalena is mortally wounded, and must find and train her replacement before time runs out. Fresh off her run on the Cold War sci-fi thriller The Skeptics, writer Tini Howard deftly displays her signature style with delightful characters and surprising narratives.
